ITV Announces Premiere Date For Period Drama ‘The Halcyon’

December 11, 2016

In exciting news for period drama fans, ITV have announced a premiere date for eight-part series The Halcyon. Due to air on 2 January 2017, it promises high drama and intrigue that will brighten the post-Christmas slump.

The Halcyon is set in a luxury hotel during the 1940s, and stars period drama veteran Olivia Williams and Alex Jennings, who recently made a fantastic impression as the Duke of Windsor in The Crown. It looks at how the strains and effects of living during the Second World War permeates the lives of the hotel guests.

Despite already being hailed as ‘the next Downton Abbey‘, it also looks rather raunchy with a large cast of characters, plot lines and plenty of music. The first episode was aired at Cannes Mipcom trade fair in October and early reviews have been highly positive.

Give the trailer a watch and decide for yourself – will it be on your watch list during the holidays?

The Halcyon airs on 2 January 2017 at 9pm on ITV.
