December 17, 2016

The trailer has been released for new feature film Viceroy’s House, which follows the true story of the politics and people behind the Partition of India in 1947. Directed by Gurinder Chadha (Bride and Prejudice, Bend It Like Beckham), it stars Hugh Bonneville as the last Viceroy of India and Gillian Anderson as his wife Lady Edwina.

The BBC films production is backed by a stellar British cast, including Michael Gambon and Simon Callow, as well as a multinational roll call of stars. Manish Dayal (The Hundred Foot Journey) and Huma Qureshi (Trishna) have crucial roles as a young Indian couple of different religions, trying to be united whilst their country falls into deep divisions.

With Chadha’s strong reputation as a gifted filmmaker, it looks sure to be one to watch for historical and period drama fans. It’s due to be released in the spring, on 3rd March 2017.
