In exciting news for murder mystery fans, the first trailer for The Limehouse Golem has been released, starring Bill Nighy and Olivia Cooke.
Set in Victorian London, Nighy plays Inspector John Kildare, a detective on the hunt for a proficient serial killer. As fear of the killer grows in the Limehouse community of London, the old myth of a terrifying Golem begins to seem like the only answer to the unaccountable crimes. All Kildare knows is that the killer must surely be human, and he’s got three prime suspects in his eyeline.
Watch the gripping first trailer below:
Based on a Peter Ackroyd’s 1994 novel Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem, the film looks like a promising blend of acting and writing talent, with screenplay writer Jane Goldman (The Woman in Black, Stardust) bringing her practised gift for adaptations to this latest project. The trailer has appearances from the always-underrated Daniel Mays, as well as period drama stalwarts Eddie Marsan and Douglas Booth. As an added behind-the-scenes fact, Alan Rickman was tied to this film in the lead role before production, but had to drop out due to his ill health. The producers have revealed that this film has a special dedication to the late, and much missed, actor.
The Limehouse Golem is scheduled to reach UK cinemas on 1 September 2017.
